Spotlight on Australian Food Industries: A Thomastown Success Featured by ALDI
Australian Food Industries (AFI), based in Thomastown in Melbourne’s north, was recently featured in an ALDI catalogue celebrating local Australian suppliers. As part of the project, Dan Alford, Director at AFI, was photographed to represent the business and its contribution to ALDI’s locally sourced product lines.
AFI is a privately owned Australian food manufacturer, producing a wide range of dry food products including cake mixes, pancake mixes, protein powders, and other bakery goods. The company supplies major supermarkets, foodservice distributors, and retail brands across Australia
Over 30 Years in Local Manufacturing
Founded in 1992, Australian Food Industries has operated from Thomastown for over three decades. From its early beginnings, the company has expanded significantly while continuing to manufacture all products locally. Today, their manufacturing facilities support the production of a variety of private label and branded items for the national grocery market.
AFI focuses on dry blends and bakery goods and is known for its capabilities in blending, packing, and contract manufacturing. Their product lines cater to a wide customer base — from traditional bakery staples to health-conscious options like high-protein and functional foods.
Featured in ALDI’s Local Supplier Series
AFI’s inclusion in ALDI’s catalogue aligns with the retailer’s initiative to showcase and support Australian-made products and local manufacturing. As part of the feature, Dan Alford represented the business, highlighting AFI’s role as a supplier committed to quality and consistency.
The catalogue campaign aims to highlight businesses that manufacture locally and maintain strong operational ties to their communities. AFI’s long-standing presence in Thomastown and ongoing partnerships with Australian retailers made it a relevant choice for the initiative.
A Commitment to Quality and Local Jobs
With a team based in Melbourne’s northern suburbs, AFI continues to invest in local jobs and Australian manufacturing. Their operations focus on quality control, innovation in product development, and maintaining strong relationships with national retailers. As a co-packer and private label partner, AFI supports the success of numerous supermarket products seen on shelves nationwide.
The company’s history and recent recognition through ALDI’s feature demonstrate the importance and resilience of Australian-owned, locally operated food manufacturing.
